Sweet Williams are a close relative of the carnation family.  This classic biennial grows in the first half of the year and then flowers in the second.  A good tip is to plant the seeds in early Autumn as the weather gets cooler, so they bloom in spring.  The brilliant pink fringed flowers are beautifully perfumed and make perfect bedding plants to scent a walkway, path or border.

Sweet Williams should be planted in moist, well drained soil. They prefer full sun but will tolerate light shade.  If they get tall and floppy you should try planting them in a sunnier spot next time.
